The Consulate of Pakistan is proud to bring Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad Qawwals to Hong Kong for the first time for a Sufi music festival – The Song of Love

1. Friday, September 8th, at Asia Society, Miller Theatre from 6.00 to 8.30 pm
The History, Art, and Practice of Qawwali – a seminar

Ally Adnan, a well-known expert on South Asian music and culture will talk about the the evolution, elements, and practice of Qawwali and its association with Sufism and Islam. The talk will include demonstration performances by Ghayur-Moiz- Mustafa Qawwals.

2. Sunday, September 10th at Jockey Hall, Asia Society from 5.00 to 8.00 pm
A Qawwali concert – Fareed Ayaz-Abu Muhammad and sons

Fareed Ayaz-Abu Muhammad Qawwal are considered to be amongst the most competent, knowledgeable and talented qawwal in the world today. Their ancestry can be traced to Miyan Samat Bin Ibrahim, who was a disciple of Hazrat Amir Khusrau, the inventor of qawwali, and the very first qawwal in this world. The qawwali of Fareed Ayaz-Abu Muhammad Qawwal represents the genre in its most pristine, pure and authentic where they have maintained a form unchanged over more than 800 years.
